This week a team from Bond is attending one of the highlights of the lateral flow calendar – the BioDot Lateral Flow Workshop 2019 in Amsterdam taking place from the 14th to the 16th of May.
This three-day practical workshop brings together some of the main players in the industry to teach the basics of lateral flow diagnostics and learn about the latest technologies and trends.
Most people are familiar with these diagnostics as the home pregnancy test which is one of the most widely used lateral flow tests in the world. The technology behind lateral flow is low-cost, simple, rapid and portable, making it widely applicable across multiple sectors like biomedicine, agriculture, food and environmental sciences.
As well as talks from industry experts on aspects like new technology developments, materials, equipment and the latest advances in digital connectivity, delegates will also get to produce their own lateral flow tests during several practical sessions.
Team Bond attended the event for the first time last year when it was held in Zaragoza, Spain. Our intention was to learn and to understand the industry a bit better, but we came away with so much more than just knowledge – we made valuable contacts that led to successful projects and profitable partnerships.
One of the companies we connected with, DCN Diagnostics, subsequently invited us to exhibit at and sponsor the Advanced Lateral Flow Course in San Diego last October, which was a huge success for us and opened even more doors in this competitive industry.
As a result of a panel in which our commercial director Phil Groom took part at that event, we have become the go-to experts on regulatory standards and compliance for software as a medical device (SaMD) in the industry.
We have spent the last year developing and perfecting Bond’s ‘medical grade’ app platform and cloud system – TRANSFORM ™️ – tailored specifically for the lateral flow industry, which is MHRA, FDA and CE mark compliant. This will enhance the point-of-care use of lateral flow tests in the field, enabling quantified digital read of a test result with instant data sharing and accessibility features as part of a connected mobile eco-system.
This week we are excited to be able to share our software solutions with delegates at the Lateral Flow Workshop, and specifically a new project we are within development in conjunction with Germany-based lateral flow technology company QIAGEN Lake Constance.
QIAGEN will be demonstrating a new handheld lateral flow reader solution that it is developing, and Bond Digital Health will be showcasing a mock-up of a companion app and cloud system we are developing that will showcase the functionality of the reader and how app and cloud technology can enhance lateral flow. Our system will allow instant test results to be displayed on a smartphone, with data securely stored and streamed to the cloud.
For us, this is a massive opportunity not only to demonstrate a new product but also to show that we can offer valuable solutions to the lateral flow industry. We hope to see you there.
